Spiritual Exploration

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

The COVID-19 induced lock-down is probably one of the greatest upheavals of our life. It made me question the very fundamentals of what I know. It is generally in such adverse situations that you are compelled to look for meaning from a spiritual perspective. I recommend you to start reading any of the following whenever you feel inadequately equipped to live blissfully (which in my case, is always!).

The list is biased towards 2 personalities but I feel it is important to invest time and delve deep into their teachings to get even a minuscule understanding of their idea of existence. Jiddu Krishnamurti comes across as the incorrigible idealist, trying to arrive at the absolute truth through sheer intellect. It requires the reader considerable patience and reflection to find something of value in his writings. Jagadish Vasudev (Sadhguru) tries to share his experiences in a more palatable, enjoyable manner; much more sensitive to the receptivity of the masses. But in my opinion, both spiritual luminaries try to converge at the same understanding of life. The following were my thoughts immediately after reading them all:

Reaching the end of 21 day complete lock-down. Unprecedented times.

Have had time to think about the nature of existence in a different light. Need to understand how I wish to live life. Therein lies everything.

The purpose of life is life itself. To live well. To live intensely. With every bit of our energy and consciousness.

I need to me more involved in whatever I do. Whatever it maybe. Most of my life has happened without me being fully conscious of what I am doing. This is naturally a tremendous waste of energy.

This is very important to understand. The entirety, the gravity of it. How am I truly living life; if I am not even conscious of it to channel my energy?

Understand yourself.
