The Most Underrated Productivity Technique

Updated: Jul 30, 2020

On the homepage, you must have read that this blog is the fruition of a long held desire.

But what is it that led to this fruition?

Was it some systematic routine change?

No.

A dopamine boosting motivational speech?

Absolutely not.

*Scoopwhoop like cringe alert*

I did one thing and it will absolutely blow your mind.

Well, I started.

Some of you might be like, Arre yaar, yeh toh clickbait nikla. Well, thoda toh tha. But not entirely. A few years ago, 'blogging' the very word felt like a cool thing which a reasonably well off dude does, propagating "life hacks", "growth mindset", "trending issues" and the like. And that I would need sufficient time and resources to set up my own blog. But when is anyone completely optimistic about a new venture?

I think that a major stumbling block for our generation's productivity is that we romanticize the idea of endeavor. We often wait for the perfect conditions to start. I admit I had one conducive situation: the lock-down. But that is it. One evening, I decided I must start. Let me establish some context though. I had absolutely no idea about hosting a blog/ website, buying a domain, search engine optimization, Google Adsense and the like (have just a cursory understanding now). And that can be overwhelming. But I do see the irony now.

How can I accomplish anything if I don't start?

Once I started, my reverence for Google increased manifold. I learnt I had to buy the domain for the site URL. Found the best possible options. I was so amateur that I thought buying the domain was it; now my blog will be up. Not too long afterwards, I remembered that at the core of the website is the HTML source code. I couldn't suddenly become an expert at developing a website. So figured out online options for the same. And within a few hours, I was writing posts for my blog! I was so engrossed in setting it up that I was awake through the night and into the morning till 5 am. The sense of fulfillment at the end of it is inexplicable.

So, I implore you to see reason! Find a worthy aim and just start. Once you start, it becomes a self sustaining cycle wherein you keep learning through your mistakes. This blog is in the nascent stage and even I have got a lot to learn. Remember: Knowledge is limited, Ignorance is infinite. Acknowledge your ignorance. There's strength in it. Only when you do that can you hope to expand your understanding in any field of endeavor.

Following is an excerpt from a famous comment on a Reddit post:

Didn't do anything all day and it's 11:58 PM?

Write one sentence.

One push-up.

Read one page of that chapter.

One.

Because One is Non Zero.

I leave you with a famous quote by the one and only Jerry Smith (shout out to Rick and Morty!)

That's it for now. You just read some motivational stuff, I guess!? But that's not enough. It just isn't.

You need to start!!!
